MATHEW MAGNESON

Sound Designer • Producer • Songwriter • Composer

Mathew Magneson is a Métis composer, songwriter, producer, and sound designer working at the intersection of music, film, and sound.

Mathew’s work moves between songwriting, film scoring, field recording, theatre, and experimental sound. His practice is rooted in curiosity, listening closely to the world around him and finding ways to transform what he hears into music, atmosphere, and story.

His background as a songwriter and producer led him toward film scoring and sound design, where he began exploring increasingly cinematic and experimental approaches to sound. His debut single, Eyes Forward, featured a collaboration with percussionist Satnam Ramgotra, whose work with Hans Zimmer and artists including Pharrell Williams and Sting opened new possibilities for incorporating orchestral and cinematic percussion into contemporary music.

Since then, Mathew has created original music and sound design for film and theatre, worked with location sound and Foley, and developed experimental sound projects exploring the relationship between environment, technology, and composition.

His current work explores field recording, electroacoustic composition, sound processing, and emerging music technologies.

Often beginning with the sounds of a place and asking, “what can they become?”

Whether composing for a screen, recording an environment, producing a song, or performing live, Mathew’s work is driven by the same idea:

Listen closely. Stay curious. Keep looking for the wonderful.
